Your First Year




A program designed for you

The first year provides students with the technical, intellectual and artistic framework they need to embark on more advanced study in the fields of art, media or design. It is designed to accommodate both students who choose to immediately specialize in a field and those that do not discover their interest until the end of their first or second year.

With a flexible dynamic curriculum

The first year of study is comprised of the College Core, School Core, First Year Writing, and Art History.

Any student with an interest in drawing may elect to take Drawing: Observation during their first semester.

First Semester

College Core IMAG 101 required course
College Core OBJT 101 required course
School Core select three credits
First Year Writing
Art History select one Drawing: Observation DRAW 113*

Second Semester

College Core IMAG or TIME select one
College Core OBJT or ENVI select one
School Core select three credits
First Year Writing
Art History select one Elective**

* Drawing: Observation is recommended for students who have a particular interest in Drawing and for students who intend on pursuing Animation, Graphic Design, Illustration, or Industrial Design.
** Recommended for students who intend on pursuing Writing for Film and Television.
